JOHN RONAN
JOHN
RONAN (1944 - ) read his civic poem, “ Good Harbor, Home” at
the 2002 inaugural of Gloucester mayor John Bell. It was published
in The Gloucester Daily Times and set to music by
David Buddin. Ronan has written The Catching Self and The
Curable Corpse (Gloucester: Folly Cove Books 1996, 1999)
and collected John Ronan’s Greatest Hits ( Johnson
City, OH: Pudding House 2001). He taught for over two decades
at North Shore Community College, where he was chairman of
the Cultural Arts Department. Since 1990, he has hosted “The
Writer’s Block,” a weekly public access cable television
show. In 1999, he won a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship
in Poetry. In 2000, he scripted and co-produced the film “ Gloucester’s Adventure:
An American Story,” a film about Gloucester’s celebrated
schooner. John Ronan's work promoting poetry in Gloucester
led to his serving as the city's Poet Laureate from 2008 to
2010. His highly praised poetry collection Marrowbone
Lane (Omaha NE: The Backwaters Press) came out in 2009.
